Compton Arms Fundraiser raises £2000 for Mary’s

On Tuesday 5th September, the Compton Arms held a fundraiser for Mary’s Youth Club as part of an ongoing partnership. The team at Mary’s met neighbours, regulars, and invited parent/guardians of youth club members to Connect, Collaborate and Celebrate. Marys posed the question ‘What advice would you give your younger self?’ and bought the positivity with an affirmation station.

The fundraiser comes as Mary’s Youth Club has embarked on a new chapter from April this year. Since 2008 until this April the youth work was part of a larger charity set up by St Mary’s Church to run community work including a pre-school, holiday play schemes and community bookings in the Neighbourhood Centre and Crypt. The decision was taken to transfer all of this operation back to the church except for the youth work. Mary’s Youth Club still has a home in the Neighbourhood Centre but whereas in the past in leaner years the youth club could rely on additional income from the community bookings this source of income is no longer available and will have to be made up in other ways.

The Compton Arms donated the takings from that evening to the youth club, totalling £2000! We’re so thankful to Nick and the team for reaching out and the patrons whom we met and who wanted to get to know us.
