INFORMATION FOR PARENTS AND GUARDIANS

SAFETY FIRST

Nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our members. All staff are trained in first aid, safeguarding and data protection and undergo a criminal record check. Our activities are risk assessed and we have clear behaviour expectations.

We are an open access provision and we welcome young people from all walks of life. Members can stay for the whole evening or just pop in for one activity. We’ll always encourage members to take up the opportunities we have and we also think its really important that young people have a safe space to hang out.

Entry to the youth club is free, as are most of our activities. While there is sometimes a small charge for our more expensive activities, this will never be a barrier to taking part. We ask for a contribution towards travel expenses for some trips and it is much cheaper if they use their Oyster cards rather than us buying a ticket. For trips out of London, we tend to get a minibus.

We believe that young people develop best in their own time and on their own terms. All our programmes are based on what young people tell us they want to learn. As much as possible we encourage young people to take the lead.

Mary’s is an independent, inclusive charity driven by the community. We believe that young people should have the best opportunities to share, learn, grow and have fun.

We are not part of St. Mary’s Church.

Our programmes have been externally assessed to the highest quality. In fact, from 2022, Mary’s is leading the development of youth work in Islington.
