Mary's: a true learning organisation

Mary’s Loves Learning!

At Mary’s Youth Club, we see ourselves as a learning organisation — not in the traditional academic sense of grades and GCSE results (though we’ll happily help decode tricky homework when asked), but in a much broader, deeper way.

For us, learning is about personal and social development. It’s about creating a space where young people feel safe enough to take risks, make mistakes, explore new ideas, and grow from their experiences. Whether it’s through a creative project, a tough conversation, or just figuring something out alongside a trusted youth worker, learning is always happening here.

Our programme is designed around different ‘zones’, each offering unique opportunities for young people to discover new interests, build confidence, and develop valuable life skills — from music and sports to wellbeing and community leadership.

Employability

We believe that listening to young people’s voices is vital. That’s why we take part in research projects that explore their views on everything from green spaces to community safety — and we make sure those insights are heard.

This commitment to learning includes our team too. Our staff are a mix of experienced youth workers and trained educators who are constantly learning themselves. We also proudly support the next generation by hosting university student placements for those training to become youth workers.

And on that note: A Huge Congratulations to the team!

Beatrix

And we don’t keep all this knowledge to ourselves. Through our training offer, we share what we’ve learned with others in the sector — delivering sessions on everything from First Aid and risk assessment to safeguarding, youth engagement, and even how to take engaging photos for social media. Whether you’re new to youth work or looking to sharpen your skills, we’re here to support a culture of learning across the whole community
