1.Name: Angel Oridota

2.age: 20

3.what are you studying at university: Psychology

4.describe yourself in three words: Creative, motivated, resourceful

5. Why did you choose Mary’s Youth Club?

I chose Mary’s Youth Club for my placement because I used to attend when I was younger, and it had a really positive impact on me. It was a safe, supportive space where I gained confidence and built relationships. Now that I’m older, I’d love the chance to give back and support younger people the way I was supported. I also want to build skills in communication, teamwork, and leadership, and I think this placement is a great opportunity to grow while making a difference

 6. What challenges do you think young people face today?

I think one big challenge young people face today is the pressure to choose a career really early, often while still dealing with school stress. It can feel overwhelming trying to make big life decisions before you’ve had time to explore your interests properly.

7. What has been your favourite part of placement?

My favourite part of the placement was getting involved with the kids, especially when we played rounders together. It was fun and helped me build a real connection with them. I also got the chance to go to a film premiere with the group, which was an amazing experience especially because I’m interested in acting. Seeing that side of the industry up close really inspired me and made me feel like I was in the right place

8. If you could plan a trip or activity for young people at the Youth Club what would it be?

If I could plan a trip or activity for the Youth Club, I’d organise a drama or film-making workshop, maybe leading up to a short performance. It would be a fun way for young people to express themselves, build confidence, and try something new.

9. Why should young people become members of a youth club?

Young people should join a youth club because it gives them a safe space to be themselves, meet new people, and try out different activities. It’s a great way to build confidence, learn life skills, and have fun outside of school..

10. What skills do you think you have learnt or developed on placement?

During my placement, I developed a lot of useful skills. I improved my communication by working with different age groups and learning how to explain things clearly. I also built more confidence, especially when helping to lead activities like rounders or helping during the premiere trip/swimming trip. Teamwork was a big part of it too. I had to work closely with the staff and support the kids at the same time. I’ve also become more patient and better at thinking on my fee

11. Would you come back and volunteer again with us in the future/would you recommend doing a placement here to other people?

Absolutely, I would love to come back and volunteer again! My experience at Mary’s Youth Club was really rewarding, and I feel like I made a positive impact. I’d definitely recommend this placement to others because it’s a place where you can learn, grow, and connect with people in a meaningful way.

12. what’s your favourite memory from your time as a member at Marys Youth Club

Definitely Champion Girls residential.

13. How would you describe Marys Youth Club in 3 words?

Supportive, Engaging, Empowering
